KPRS Surfer Paddles 30 Miles from Catalina

08/06/2018

At 5:00 am on Saturday July 28, Tyler Brundage joined a group of 35 paddlers at White’s Cove in Catalina for a nearly 30 mile, open-ocean paddle to Newport Beach.

Tyler, a Project Manager in the KPRS Tenant Improvement group, decided to join the BenDidGo event to fulfill a personal goal of crossing the Catalina Channel while also supporting the Ben Carlson Memorial and Scholarship Foundation. He trained by going on long training paddles and was prepared with proper nutrition and hydration the day of.

Followed by 12 support boats, the group landed at Newport Beach Lifeguard Headquarters at just under 9 hours. Tyler told us, “We were up against some challenging conditions crossing the channel, but everyone came in safe and sound.”

Tyler and the other participants raised $29,625 for the Ben Carlson Memorial and Scholarship Foundation. The Foundation was created for Newport Beach Lifeguard, Ben Carlson, who died in the line of duty in 2014. The foundation educates the public on open water safety and provides scholarships to lifeguards.

The whole KPRS family salutes Tyler for his courage on this adventure, and his support of the Ben Carlson Foundation’s work.
